It's Soup Season

If you've not noticed the internet is stock-full of soup recipes. From the infamous stew to something a little simpler. Below are two recipes I've made recently and a fun soup video.

#thestew - Alison Roman, a New York Times recipe developer came out with a much lauded stew. The Stew, or it's formal name Spiced Chickpea Stew with Coconut and Turmeric. I first made this with my friend Claire in Germany. I made it for myself once I got home. I did reduce the amount of coconut milk and upped the chicken stock. This makes the soup..errrr stew looser and not as heavy feeling after eating. If you don't have a New York Times cooking subscription to view this recipe, you can find a bootlegged copy hereWatch Alison make #thestew.

Feel-Better Chicken and Rice Soup - This recipe is simple and tasty. You can make it as is, or take it as a base chicken soup recipe and add anything you'd like to use up. The MO of my cooking is making something 75% according to the recipe, and substitute the rest to avoid going to the store. For this soup I used up leftover chicken, replaced sweet potatoes (which I didn't have) with delicata squash and I used brown rice instead of jasmine because that's what I had. At the end I poured a lot more lemon juice than was called for and I found it really lifted the soup. Watch Andy from Bon Appetit make it and see just how simple it is to put together. Think of making this with leftover turkey!

Lastly, this isn't a recipe I've made, but it's more about learning about the different levels of cooking the same thing. Epicurious has a series on 4 Levels, this is the chili version. An ameture, experter level home cook and a chef all create the same thing but at their particular level. At the end of the video a food scientist reviews the choices made by each and gives more context and well, science

Maybe you're feeling a post-Thanksgiving couch calling your name, here are a few recommended shows that will take your mind off your too-full stomach. Complete with gifs!

Travel Man: 48 Hours In... (Hulu) - My comedic dreamboat Richard Ayoade takes a comedy pal on weekend excursions. This should go without saying, hilarity ensues.

Single Parents (ABCHulu) - A HIGHLY underrated show about a group of single parents and their zaney kids. My favorite are the twins, which you'll understand once you watch it.

The Crown - I've not yet seen the new season but I've downloaded a few episodes to watch on planes coming up this week.

Also, I'd like to apologize for anything who's been around me the past two weeks as I've non-stop gushed about Baby Yoda from Disney+ show The Mandalorian. If you've not been around me here is everything you've missed...or perhaps haven't.

The whole Baby Yoda gif take down that happened this weekend is a little wild; and also still a little unclear. Catch up on it here: Baby Yoda GIFs Are Back Online and Giphy Has Apologized to Disney For Some Reason
