I Would Rather Have a Pasta Pot Than A Boyfriend

I Would Rather Have a Pasta Pot Than A Boyfriend

Late on Monday I said just that to my roommate. Quickly followed by "Well I've ordered a pasta pot that's  supposed to arrive any minute now and I can't exactly do the same for a person."

My largest pot is a two quart and last time I made a long pasta dish, white pesto on bucatini, I had to split the box of pasta into two batches and then wait for the bottom to become soft enough to delicately smush the rest of the long pasta into the water. Not ideal.

My baking game changed when I first had access to a dutch oven. My old house had one and I could immediately tell a difference in that bread. The crust was just that, crusty! It was a revolutionary way to bake for me.

Half with the lid on, which captures the dough's own stream and creates a balloon like stretch over the growing dough. The second half with the lid off releases the stream and causes the scoring on the bread to become predominate. Bakers often want something called an ear, where a single line score, at just the right angle, flips up. I've had a few good ears on my loaves, but I'm not obsessed with perfecting it.

The right equipment can be life changing. Not just in the kitchen, in any aspect of life. Just ask a runner - wrong shoes, bad run. If you'll allow me to push this metaphor a little bit more, having the right people in your life is also life changing. However, I've found unlike the right tool people don't always make your life easier or simplier. People are messy. Red sauce, spaghetti noodle, twist the fork in a spoon by a 5 year old at a fancy Italian restaurants kind of messy. The kind that comes with laughs, support and a little extra guidance. Whether you want it or not.  People, friends, boyfriends, spouses, coworkers it's always good to have your cabinet stocked with those who will make you better. But, figuratively of course. Don't have people in your cupboards. Unless you're playing hide and seek.

Anyways, here's the pasta pot. I've already used it. It's amazing. I hope you find the perfect pasta pot for your life too.

The BreadList - a collection of things I've been reading, making and watching to recently.

Watching this video about marriage (and divorce) finances was THROWN ME. I've talked to so many people about it. I know so little about marriage, or combined finances.

Long live Amy! (aka why the new Little Women version of Amy is the best.)

I've been catching up on a my backlog of podcasts over the long weekend, I've enjoyed this loveeeelyyyy interview of my skincare guru Caroline Hirons on Fat Mascara, THE Duchess of Cambridge on Happy Mum, Happy Baby, and Newcomer, a Star Wars podcast about two girls seeing all the movies for the first time.

I made these vanilla pot de cremes this weekend (kinda soupy) which left me with a lot of egg whites to make a gin campari sours with. Naturally!

This article is strictly for my Mother who is a certified Essentrics instructor and a big proponent of use it or lose it when it comes to flexibility.
